Hist. crit. notes:The five-part photo series stages various people from different cultures at a location of their choice together with a pumpkin bearing lettering: the same phrase is always painted in white on the pumpkin in the language of the person portrayed: “Where I am tired, that is where I sleep.” If the viewer understands the text, this reveals a certain framework for interpreting the photograph as a medium of communication and a complex of signs, otherwise it remains an abstract ornament.
