Hist. crit. notes:Martina Steckholzer’s painting is characterised by an approach that is both sensual and conceptual. It is not a question of inventing her own image worlds or depicting reality, but rather – building upon the critical-analytical tendencies existing in art since the 1960s – making a central theme of the experience of contemporary art itself, as well as the conditions that frame this experience. The painting belongs to a group of painted works that are preceded by a photographic or filmic collection of motifs and impressions, generating new sensual phenomena and effects from a sharpened observation of architectural facts.
