Title:Fremdenbuch - Book of the strangers
Object name:guest book
Production date:(dated) 30.09.1864 — (dated) 28.05.1933
Description:Guest book from the “Pension Deutsches Haus” in Meran/o with entries and comments from guests (mostly in old-style Kurrent script) from the years 1864 to 1899 (continuous), 1901 (two entries) and 1933 (one entry).
As can be seen from the entries, Louise Klicka from Bohemia worked from 1866 as a concierge or housekeeper at the Deutsches Haus guesthouse in Meran, which was owned by Christoph Möser.
Louise Klicka’s marriage to Franz Petrmichl of Klattau (various spellings, usually Petermichel) likely took place around 1875. From this point on, Louise Petrmichl is referred to in the guestbook entries as the “landlady” of the guesthouse.
In 1886, for the first time, a guest refers both to the “liebenswürdigen Wirthin – Frau Petermichl [amiable landlady – Mrs Petermichl]” as well as to the “Hausfräulein – Fräulein Marie [chambermaid – Miss Marie]”.
Marie Petrmichl, whose married name was Hampl, was Louise’s daughter and took over the running of the guesthouse from the middle to the end of the 1890s, becoming its owner in 1902.
Louise Petrmichl died in 1900.
In 1887 Marie married Ferdinand Hampl. They had five children who, after their mother’s death in 1914, continued to run the guesthouse as the Pension Hampl during the 1920s.
