Flippo Luzzago came from a family from Brescia who, among other things, joined Frederick Barbarossa's crusade in 1190. Reliable information about the family begins in 1360 with the notary Fiorino de Luciago (born around 1320), who had five sons: Giovanni, Manfredo, Filippo, Pietro and Verzerio, from whom just as many branches of the dynasty emerged. The branches descended from the first three sons died out in the first half of the 17th century. The Pietro line died out in the 19th century in the lines of the Counts Di Rosa of Brescia and the Marquises di Bagno of Mantua, while the Verzerio line split into several other branches, of which only the branch under Antonio (end of the 15th century) is still alive today.
