Hist. crit. notes:After the end of World War I, Hubert Mumelter (1896 - 1981) was still undecided as to whether he should become a painter or a poet. Although he was one of the most widely read authors in South Tyrol at the time, he nevertheless continued to paint. In his novels, poems as well as his paintings, Mumelter's works are largely set in South Tyrol, with the landscape as the main subject. Often critical of Mumelter's writings, poet Norbert C. Kaser commented:"fast immer ist es Herbst" (It's almost always autumn).
Indeed, the dominant rusty colour hues in two of his paintings in the Bolzano Provincial Council building would seem to support this. A third painting, however, shows reflections on water, and a fourth (signed only HM) depicts a homestead and a family home in a winter landscape. (Markus Neuwirth, Moving between North and South, in: Art in the Provincial Council of South Tyrol, Bolzano/Bozen 2024, pp. 163, 212-213)
