Object name:Easter egg
Collection:Museum
Created by:Unknown
Production date:(about) 1869
Production period:19th century
Description:Red coloured Easter egg with finely engraved motifs (two musical instruments with sheet music, flowers and turtledoves). In the centre is a five-line love poem:
“In der Nähe liebe ich dich zärtlich,
in der Ferne liebe ich dich treu.
Und sollst du mich haben,
so wirst du erfahren,
dass ich allezeit dieselbe sei...”.
Translation:
“Close by I love you tenderly,
From afar I love you true.
And if you should take me,
then you will know,
that I will ever remain unchanged...”.
This Easter egg was given by the young Annamaria Sanoner da Mauriz to her fiancé, Josef Moroder zu Lusenberg, on Easter Monday 1869 according to the old custom of the Gröden/Gardena Valley. Annamaria Sanoner became Lusenberger’s first wife, dying in childbirth five years later.
This small and fragile object has survived undamaged over several generations and, together with Aurelia Langer’s Easter eggs (see Inv. no. 00301), it was donated to the Gherdëina Museum by her granddaughter Elfi Demetz dl Langer.
